Barr and Brodley participate in webinar, "Visualizing Progress in Broadening Participation in Computing"
On October 3, 2024, Dr.Valerie Barr of Bard College, a member of the AiiCE Steering Committee member, and Dr. Carla Brodley of Northeastern University, a Senior Personnel at AiiCE, will participate in a webinar, "Visualizing Progress in Broadening Participation in Computing: The Value of Context". During the webinar, Dr. Barr and Dr. Brodley, along with fellow author Manuel Pérez-Quiñones, will discuss their recent paper, "Visualizing Progress in Broadening Participation in Computing: The Value of Context," which was published in the July 2024 issue of the Communications of the ACM. The paper outlines methods currently used to evaluate degree data and ways to improve them. The authors are committed to inclusive computing and have been working to cultivate multiple methods to help improve data tracking. These include cohort-based analysis and comparing computer science demographics to overall university demographics. These methods can provide detailed insights into a school's computing sector.
