Daily featured on 'People of ACM'

Dr. Shaundra Daily, the Director of AiiCE's Backbone, was featured on 'People of ACM,' where she reflected on experiences that have led to her career pursuits, as well as challenges she has faced. Daily described that her area of research has been the most significant barrier she faced during her career. When she discovered her passion for using computational technologies to educate students, she was told that she could not have an engineering degree and pursue education. Despite her constant work to place software engineering in the education context, she could not get others to understand this perspective. Dr. Shaundra Daily and Dr. Nicki Washighton started AiiCE, a crucial initiative that promotes diversity and inclusivity in education and computer science. Promoting this crucial initiative, AiiCE brings together diverse organizations to encourage structural change. Their advocacy centers on developing identity-inclusive pedagogy and curriculum alongside making computer science a foundational subject. In ten years, Dr. Daily hopes that computing will be a space where people from all backgrounds are welcomed and valued.
